Maintenance-free
Plastics are virtually maintenance-free. They tolerate the effects of water and weather, and the surface is not degraded by the effects of sun, frost or most chemicals. Dirt is easily removed.
This low (or no) maintenance and durability makes plastics ideal for long-life applications such as building materials. Exterior or underground cables and pipes made of plastic can last 50 years or more.
Think of the difference in maintaining a boat with a wooden hull, and one with a polymer hull. |
