Primo is a partner in Wuppi, a Danish company dedicated to the recycling of rigid PVC materials.
Plastics are recyclable materials. Provided they are not mixed with or contaminated by other materials, common plastic varieties such as PVC are fully recyclable and are a valuable resource.
One of the biggest advantages of plastics is also its biggest drawback: It is almost indestructible and does not easily degrade naturally as opposed to wood, ceramics or most metals. As a result, plastic recycling is an ever-increasing concern for producers, legislators and the public.
Recycling rigid PVC
In Denmark, Primo is part of a company that was set up with the exclusive purpose of recycling rigid PVC used in construction. Wuppi, as the company is called, is a consortium run by the five largest Danish producers of PVC and with most municipalities in Denmark cooperating to recycle as much PVC as possible.
Builders and construction companies can use dedicated containers to dispose of discarded PVC products such as pipes, window frames, roofings sheets and so forth. The products are sorted, washed and ground to a granulate which can be used to make new long-lived PVC products with minimum impact to the environment.
