Advantages of extrusion
Using plastics in your products doesn’t require an in-house plastics engineer or extrusion technician; however, before choosing a supplier and a solution, it makes sense to have a general understanding of the possibilities offered by plastic extrusion.
With plastic extrusion, you have a broad range of options to optimise both product performance and time to market. At Primo, we offer a wide range of design and material options, as well as tooling, prototyping facilities, and extrusion with integrated inline operations – all under one roof.
This “one-stop” approach helps reduce complexity and ensures alignment across all stages.
You can choose from different plastic types with different properties. The optimal choice depends on the application and its requirements – such as weather conditions, temperature, durability, maintenance, insulation, protection and appearance.
Tool design can – and should – be developed according to production needs: small-scale, high-volume, complex or prototype profiles. The total cost depends on factors such as design, material selection, machining processes (wire cutting, milling and EDM), and test runs.
Inline operations on the extrusion line save time
In extrusion and/or in the customer’s downstream processes. These integrated features are ‘business as usual’ across many projects and segments. Examples include:
Windows & Doors: Window glazing beads with co-extruded or inline mounted soft TPE gaskets. Co-extrusion ensures consistent sealing performance and quality, allowing the window producer to eliminate manual mounting processes.
Offshore: Shaped cable fillers and profiles with inline diameter control and marking. Inline measurement and ID marking reduce inspection steps and improve traceability. Similar solutions are used in healthcare, where inline laser marking of batch codes and scale markings eliminates separate marking processes.
Construction: Decorative profiles (e.g. skirtings, finishing profiles, covers and edge mouldings) can be foil-laminated inline. The extrusion process allows for integrated operations drilling, cutting, punching, labelling etc. This eliminates additional post-processing, ensures surface consistency, and improves overall quality.
