Smarter and more sustainable plastic profiles
At Primo, we have a unique setup, unseen in the industry, which speeds up time-to-market and secures better, greener, and smarter plastic profiles. Instead of relying on external specialist and workshops, we have all functions in-house.
Our inhouse R&D-center, our plastic profile design centre and the in-house tool shop, plus a dedicated test center, gives you an entirely new approach to profile design and improvement. To this comes our material lab, continually working to improve existing materials and develop new, stronger, and more sustainable materials for future products.
As a new customer, these incorporated and specialised teams are at your service.
Endless possibilities with plastic profiles
Plastic is used in almost any industry around the world, and we all consume and live with plastics every day in the form of packaging, building elements, cars, trains, boats, medical equipment, furniture, IT, gadgets, electronics, toys – the list is endless. We claim to offer endless possibilities with plastic profiles, and we believe we are right.
A plastic profile is a plastic component which is produced in an extrusion process. In this article, we would like to give a brief presentation of what kind of applications plastic profiles are used for and an introduction to the properties of plastics and the different plastic types.
The plastic profiles we produce come in very different shapes and sizes; they are usually produced in lengths of 6 metres and often small parts constructed for a larger end product, like a 1,2 mm tube for medical equipment or a 85 mm seal for a refrigerated trailer.
Plastic profiles are used for:
- Construction, Building, Windows & Doors
- Medical & Dental Tubing
- Energy & Offshore
- Electric Power & Electronics
- Farming & Fishery
- Furniture & Interior Finishing
- Gardening & Greenhouse
- Gates & Industrial doors
- HVAC, White goods & Refrigeration
- Leisure, Sports & Toys
- Lighting
- Packaging
- Rail & Road equipment
- Transport & Automotive
Plastic profiles have excellent properties
A plastic profile is the preferred solution in so many and so very different products because of the excellent properties of plastics. Different plastic types have different properties, and each plastic type is thoroughly selected and adjusted to the specific product. Some of the design advantages of plastics are:
INSULATION – DECORATION – PROTECTION – MAINTENANCE – DURABILITY – LIGHTWEIGHT – STABILITY – U-VALUES – RECYCLABLE – DENSITY – COLOUR OPTIONS - DESIGN & SHAPING
Plastic types for all purposes
The requirements for the final solution define which plastic type is best suited for the specific product. The most common plastics at use are:
- ABS
- ASA
- EVA
- PA
- PE/HDPE
- PE/LDPE
- PP
- PC, PC/ABS
- PET
- POM
- PS, GPPS
- PS, HIPS
- PVC
- PUR
- PLA
You can find a detailed description of properties and applications in the material types overview.
Plastic Profiles and Sustainability
Plastic can be the optimum solution when it comes to sustainability. Many plastics types are environmental-friendly, recyclable and energy-saving. These years, our company and the whole plastic industry are looking into new material types like biodegradable plastics and recyclable composites. As a leading plastic profile manufacturer to global, market leading companies who take responsibility in building green, we continuously seek new, greener solutions. Primo’s effort to support sustainable solutions is described in more articles and on the sustainability presentation.
