A fantastic milestone for Primo in Mobile, Alabama US: A dream and ambition has become reality: Primo is now firmly established in the United States. Two years after the formal paperwork was completed, we have moved into our brand-new factory in Mobile, Alabama – designed for the future of extruded plastic profiles for subsea cables.

Extrusion group Primo has moved into a new continent. After decades in Europe and Asia, the Primo Group’ business unit Primo Offshore has established a production site in Mobile Alabama, for production of customised extruded polymer profiles for the offshore industry.

Primo Offshore’s entry into the United States is more than an expansion of physical capacity — it marks a strategic milestone for the entire Primo Group. With a new 24,000‑square‑foot, state‑of‑the‑art extrusion facility in Mobile, Alabama, we are strengthening our global presence and enhancing our ability to support customers in multiple industries.

While the facility initially focuses on PVC, PE and PP profiles for subsea cabling, its value reaches far beyond the offshore sector. Demand for advanced extruded profiles is rising across energy, industrial, mobility, automation, and infrastructure segments — and being present in North America positions Primo to support these industries with greater agility and responsiveness.

A Strategy Backed by Customer Insight: “We Follow Our Customers”

In 2024, Primo Group’s board approved establishing U.S. production dedicated to offshore applications. Years of dialogue, research, and joint development with our world‑leading key accounts made one point clear: Being closer to our customers creates measurable value.

For example, our long‑standing collaboration with SLB OneSubsea, the global leader in subsea cable systems, highlighted clear advantages of having a supplier located directly in the U.S. market. Operationally, this means:

  • Faster prototyping and approvals — with on‑site testing and adjustments.
  • More efficient project execution — including audits, material selection, and documentation.
  • Reduced lead times and simplified logistics.
  • Higher guarantees of delivery times and terms
  • Stronger daily collaboration thanks to physical proximity.

This is the essence of “We follow our customers”:
Where they grow, we grow — and where they face challenges, we stand beside them.

Proximity Builds Industry Insight and Better Solutions

Operating in our customers’ own markets gives us deep insight into local industry requirements, emerging application needs, compliance developments, and regional innovation trends. By understanding the full context in which our customers operate, we can help them remain market‑leading—or enter new markets with confidence. This is especially critical for global companies navigating several continent requirements simultaneously.

A Proven Strategy: Learning from Our Success in Asia

We have successfully followed this strategy before.
In 2017, after years in a joint venture, Primo acquired full ownership of Primo Profilex in China. The company was already strong in extruded packaging tubes for electrical components. By integrating Profilex into the Primo Group, we created a dedicated platform for the Asian market and strengthened our ability to serve global customers with local production.

On March 25, we officially cut the ribbon and celebrated the impressive result of two years of intensive work

A New Platform for Future Growth

Building a new production site on a new continent marks a game‑changing moment for the Primo Group. The Alabama facility expands our global footprint and creates a strategic platform for future development — not only for offshore applications but for industrial customers across North America.

This investment strengthens our ability to deliver:

  • High‑precision extrusion
  • Consistent quality across continents
  • Customer‑specific material solutions
  • Efficient, localised supply chains
  • Innovation partnerships supported by global expertise

A Milestone Marked in Mobile

Primo officially celebrated its new location in Mobile, Alabama, with a grand opening on March 25, marking the completion of the new extrusion facility and our formal settlement in the U.S.
The new facility is focused on manufacturing PVC profiles for subsea cables, a critical component in SLB OneSubsea's umbilical systems. The plant layout includes initially 8 production lines in PVC, PE and PP and a product range of custom hybrid armouring and shaped fillers for umbilicals and power cables.
