Our commitments to sustainability

  • SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT AT PRIMO

Our sustainability journey is driven by a commitment to be more environmentally conscious and support sustainable development. Under the FUTURE FIT initiative, our sustainability efforts are not just a choice but a necessity – for our clients and us. Our overarching goal is to contribute to our customers' improved environmental footprint through our commitments.

FUTURE FIT is Primo’s commitment to sustainability

It’s our promise to be a part of the global movement towards a sustainable future. We’re taking responsibility for creating best practice in our work — for everyone’s benefit.

On this pillar we have based our ambition to

  1. Help and enable our customers’ wish to produce (more) sustainable products. To support this, we will offer smarter designs and recycled and biodegradable raw materials, and engage with customers and external partners to recycle off-cuts.
  2. Implement and promote environmentally responsible behaviour at all sites. We will achieve this by introducing good practices and procedures for reducing production scrap and electricity usage, and by prioritising energy consumption when installing new machinery and equipment.
Our FUTURE FIT 2023 programme is boiled down into this overall ambition:

Supporting commitments, all to be achieved no later than 2030:

  • Helping customers reduce CO₂ emissions
  • Driving innovation in sustainable materials and designs
  • Closing the loop on plastic waste
  • Reducing our climate and energy footprint
  • Managing water responsibly
  • Maximizing reuse of raw materials

Driving innovation in sustainable materials and designs

✓ Established a Technology & Innovation Centre (2023) including a tooling hub and test lines to support innovation and accelerate sustainable design and manufacturing
This centre enables faster development of sustainable profiles and processes, ensuring quality.

Helping you reduce your CO₂ emissions

✓ Implemented a CO₂ calculator to help customers choose lower-impact solutions.
The calculator provides transparency on carbon footprints, guiding customers toward greener choices.

Our climate and energy footprint

✓  Conducted training programmes across sites to align targets and definitions, this to ensure transparency and avoid greenwashing.
Training ensures consistent sustainability practices and clear communication across all operations.

Helping you reduce your CO₂ emissions

✓  Hosted customer sustainability seminars
These seminars share knowledge on sustainable solutions.

Driving innovation in sustainable materials and designs

✓  Developed a comprehensive design guide for sustainable profile extrusion.
The guide helps us design profiles that minimize material use and environmental impact.

Helping you reduce your CO₂ emissions

✓ Introduced procedures for EPDs (Environmental Product Declaration) and prepared specific EPDs for key segments. We foresee that the demand for EPDs will increase, and that for some businesses it will be a decisive factor.
EPDs provide verified environmental data, supporting customers’ sustainability documentation needs.

Driving innovation in sustainable materials and designs

✓  Implemented policies and information on PFAS and EUDR
Compliance ensures responsible handling of chemicals and raw materials, reducing environmental risks.

Driving innovation in sustainable materials and designs

✓  Tested and selected new recycled, recyclable as well as biobased materials and blends.
Introducing tested new materials and blends can provide greater flexibility and reduce environmental impact without compromising on quality.

Driving innovation in sustainable materials and designs

✓  Increased our raw materials portfolio of recycled, recyclable and biobased plastics.
A broader portfolio ensures that sustainable materials are readily available to customers, enabling them to choose more sustainable solutions. The usability of these materials is further supported by smart tooling design, making them practical in production.

Closing the loop on plastic waste

✓  Piloted take-back programs for customers’ off-cuts
Take-back programs reduce waste and enable recycling, contributing to circular production.

Our climate and energy footprint

✓  Prioritised energy-saving equipment when replacing or acquiring new extruders, monitors etc.
Energy-efficient machinery lowers operational emissions and supports CO₂ reduction goals.

Our waste and water footprint

✓ Prioritised water-saving equipment when installing new machinery and water-cleaning systems.
Water-saving systems reduce resource consumption and environmental impact.

Our raw material footprint

✓ Implemented practices to reuse scrap and installed in-house regrind facilities.
Regrind facilities allow scrap to be reused internally, minimizing waste and supporting circular economy.

Helping you reduce your CO2 emissions

·       One out of seven customer is asking for sustainable solutions (or %, or nothing)

·       More than 60% of sustainable quotations are achieved by changing the material from non-plastic to plastic, or from fossil-based to recycled plastic.

·       Since 2020 we have collected 11.000 tonnes post-industrial plastic directly from customers or via recycling companies-
