New offshore solutions from Primo

Gerard Socha, 48, has just been appointed new business area manager for Primo’s expanding offshore segment.

Primo is betting on the offshore industry both in the Nordic countries and across the world. The offshore industry is a global growth area, and Primo’s expertise in plastics extrusion means that we can supply large offshore operators with some of the most essential components:

The submarine cables and umbilicals, all in advanced, durable, extruded plastics. To prepare for the expected growth in this industry, Primo has just announced the appointment of Gerard Socha as new business area manager for the offshore business.

“We’re ready to grow with the industry,” says Bjørn Hågan, managing director of Primo Norway. “And with the appointment of Gerard Socha, we’re upgrading our organization to match the demands of the market.”

Documentation and fast logistics

For the customers in the offshore industry, one thing above all is important: Documentation. In the offshore industry, any error can have potentially huge consequences. Bjørn Hågan explains: “Imagine a cable at a depth of 2,000 meters which breaks - we just can’t have that. So our customers depend on top quality, documentation and traceability in every single detail, and we can deliver that.”

Another vital element is how easy it is to get access to the products. “At our production facility in Dalstop, Sweden, we have almost limitless space for intermediate product storage, and that means we can offer very short lead-times when our customers need subsea cabling with Primo profiles in them,” says Bjørn Hågan.

Experience with polymers

The new business area manager for the offshore business, Gerard Socha, has more than twenty years of experience from the plastics business from such companies as INEOS and Wilh. Willumsen. Originally trained as a chemical engineer, polymer plastics have been his main field of expertise for years.

He comes from a position with Wilh. Willumsen in Norway, one of the main raw material suppliers in the plastics industry, and he has long experience working with international customers in large-scale project sales - exactly the task he will be undertaking at Primo.
