New standards for fire and smoke resistance for doors and windows

Smoke and fire resistance are extremely important in modern production of doors and windows. Only by rigorous testing and strict certification procedures a high and reliable level of security according to applicable standards can be uphold. At Primo we are ready to support manufacturers of doors and windows with in-depth material knowledge, so they can comply with the new European Fire Protection Standard DIN EN 16034.

Fire resistant door gaskets by Primo

As a producer of high-end gaskets for doors and windows, considerations about the end-product is increasingly important. At Primo we understand that even though gaskets may only be a small part of the final product, the material properties might have a large impact on the complete product.

Therefore, we at Primo are striving to document and communicate our decade long knowledge about material properties.

PRIMO GASKETS ARE PREPARED FOR END-PRODUCT CERTIFICATION

When it comes to fire and smoke resistance in doors and windows, gaskets play an important role. Primo’s raw materials used for fire protection products are tested and listed according to Underwriters Laboratories (UL). UL is an international acknowledged testing and certifying institute with more than a century of experience in independent product testing. The specific tests consist of a series of different ways of burning plastic elements, simulating typical real-life scenarios. This gives a standardized set of data, the industry can utilize for precise planning ahead, documentation and end-product certification.

Primo can produce fire protection gaskets, which fulfill the classification UL94-HB and UL94-V0. These materials are tested and classified on their fire behavior according to DIN EN 13501-1.

EASIER ACCESS TO THE EUROPEAN MARKET

The UL-measurements are of high importance to the producers of windows and doors. Internationally accepted measurements ease the development and time-to-market of new products. In Europa doors and windows have been regulated by the standards ‘DIN EN 13501-1 - Fire classification of construction products and building elements’ and the German standard ‘DIN 4102-1 Fire behavior of building materials and elements.’

Since November 2019 the new standard European Fire Protection Standard EN 16034 has been adopted. This standard is fully integrated in the CE-mark, and it means that a single CE-mark can now be used to market a product all over the European Union.
